How to update to iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and iPod touch
iOS 5.0.1 update has been released today and fixes many bugs for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, , iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and iPod touch (4th and 3rd Generation). A select few of iOS5 users that were able to obtain the update earlier were immensely happy with the results of how Apple addressed the battery issue. This is the first iOS update “over the air” which can be downloaded through your WI-FI internet access. To proceed with iOS 5.0.1 “over the air” update, iOS users can go to Settings > General > Software Update on their device.
The update dialog says the update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
• fixes bugs affecting battery life
• adds multitasking gestures for original iPad
• resolves bugs with documents in the cloud
• improves voice recognition for Australian users using diction

Here is a step by guide to updating your device “over the air”
Make sure your device is using Wi-Fi. These screenshots were taken with an iPhone 4S and other devices will look very similar:
1- Tap the “Home” button to return to home screen.
2- Tap “Settings” app icon
3- Tap “General” and go to and tap “Software Update”
4- Your device will check for updates. The iOS 5.0.1 dialog screen will show. Tap “Download and Install”.

5- Tap “Agree” to accept Terms and Conditions and start the download.

6- iOS 5.0.1 update will begin downloading. This will take about an hour and will vary depending on your WIFI connection.
7- Once finished, you will be prompted with a push notification as shown below. Tap “Install”.


8- Your device will verifying the update and begin installing the update. Once finished, your device will restart.
9- Congratulations! iOS 5.0.1 update should be installed successfully.
There are three ways to update your device to iOS 5.0.1:

1) Use iTunes to download and install iOS 5.0.1 through the cord
2) “Over the Air” Update using Wi-Fi
3) Manually updating the iOS 5.0.1 software
